ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team opened its four-game series against Lincoln on Friday with a 15-3 win in seven innings at Vivion Field in Jefferson City, Mo. The Tritons improve to 13-7, 3-2 GLVC while the Blue Tigers fall to 2-15, 0-1 GLVC.
UMSL jumped out to the early lead with a pair of runs in the first inning.
Cade Grevengoed brought home
Braedon Stoakes with a single up the middle for the first run and later in the inning.
Barrett Rose scored on an error by the first baseman for the second run.
The Tritons scored 13 runs over the final four innings of the contest. They put up four runs in the fourth getting RBI bases loaded walks from Grevengoed and Rose and
Luke Saxton brought home the final two runs with a single through the right side.
UMSL ran wild on Lincoln in the fifth as Stoakes stole second and went to third on a throwing error by the catcher that allowed
Jake Isaacs to score from third, Stoakes scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly and Grevengoed drove in his third run of the contest with a solo home run.
Andrew Buescher hit a solo home run in the sixth inning and McIntyre and Isaacs each had RBI singles to extend the lead to 12-0.
The Blue Tigers got a three-run home run from Jayden Little in the home half of the sixth but the Tritons answered with three more in the seventh.
Noah Tomaras grounded out to short to bring home Buescher and
LJ Randle drove in two with a single scoring
Logan McIntyre and
Brady Robertson.
UMSL finished with 15 hits in the contest and were led by Grevengoed and Buescher with three apiece while Saxton and McIntyre had two each.
Zach Haygood improved to 2-0 on the season allowing three runs on six hits and struck out seven in six innings pitched.
Will Johnson struck out the side in the seventh to seal the win.
The Tritons and Lincoln continue their four-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. at Vivion Field.
