UMSL Completes Series Sweep of Lincoln

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team completed its four-game series sweep with an 18-1 win in seven innings on Sunday afternoon at Vivion Field in Jefferson City, Mo. The Tritons improve to 16-7, 6-2 GLVC while the Blue Tigers drop to 2-18, 0-4 GLVC.

UMSL jumped out to the early lead scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Luke Saxton drove in the first run with a single to left and Dane Stevenson followed with a bases clearing double to left center scoring Saxton, Andrew Buescher and Barrett Rose.

The Tritons added another five runs in the second. Garrett Strenger started it of with a solo home run then Cade Grevengoed followed with a two-run double bringing home Jake Isaacs and Braedon Stoakes. Rose brought home Grevengoed with a two-run home run to left for the final runs of the frame.

Lincoln's run came in the bottom of the second on an RBI double down the left field line off the bat of Chase Morris.

UMSL added four more runs in the third inning on an RBI double from Grevengoed, an RBI single from Buescher and sacrifice flies from Saxton and Stevenson.

The Tritons final five runs came in the seventh inning as Owen Polly, Cole Schrank, Logan McIntyre and LJ Randle each drove in a run and the final run scored on a wild pitch.

UMSL finished with 17 hits in the contest and were led by Grevengoed with three hits and three RBI while Stoakes, Rose and Mitch Bonczkowski had two each. Stevenson finished with a game-high four RBI in the contest. Trey Schneider picked up the win throwing 3.2 innings of relief work allowing no runs on two hits and struck out seven to earn his first collegiate victory and even his record at 1-1.

The Tritons return home on Friday (March 21) hosting Illinois Springfield in the start of a four-game series at 2 p.m. at the UMSL Baseball Field.
