SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team's 2024-25 season came to an end with a 75-62 loss to No 16 Lake Superior in the Midwest Regional Final at The Recreation and Activities Center in Springfield, Ill., on Tuesday evening. The Lakers improve to 30-6 and advance to next week's Elite Eight in Evansville, Ind.
LSSU, seeded second, jumped out to an early 8-2 lead but the Tritons, seeded fourth, rallied going on a 25-13 run over a stretch of 10-plus minutes to take its largest lead of the contest at 27-21 on a layup from
Savon Wykle.
The Lakers closed the half on a 12-4 run to take a 33-31 lead into the locker room at the break.
UMSL opened the second half on a 12-6 run to take a 43-39 lead a dunk from
Troy Glover II but that would be the Tritons last lead as LSSU ran off 15 of the next 20 points to take a 54-48 lead on a pull up jumper from Tyson Edmondson.
Matt Enright tied the UMSL career-three point record with his fifth trey of the night to bring the Tritons back to within three with 7:35 remaining but that would be the closest UMSL got the rest of the way as the Lakers pulled away in the final seven minutes ending the game on a 21-11 run for the victory.
Enright and Glover were named to the All-Midwest Region Tournament team along with Lake Superior State's Edmondson, Adam Harakow and Kingsley Perkins.
The Tritons finished the game 39 percent (22-for-56) from the floor but were 6-of-21 from three and shot 73 percent at the foul line. They were outrebounded by the Lakers 43-to-24. Enright led all scorers with 29 points while Glover finished with a double-double recording 12 points and 11 rebounds.
LSSU shot 45 percent (24-for-53) from the field including 11-of-29 from three and shot 80 percent at the foul line. Edmondson led the Lakers with 23 points and was joined in double figures by Harakow with 17 points while Devin Womack and Perkins had 12 and 10 points respectively.
UMSL finishes the season with a record of 21-12 including 15-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
