ST. LOUIS -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team dropped both games of Friday's double header against the University of Illinois-Springfield 3-2 and 6-4 in nine innings at the UMSL Softball Field. UMSL is now 11-16, 4-8 GLVC while the Prairie Stars are 21-12, 9-5 GLVC.

Game 1: UIS 3 UMSL 2
UIS opened the game with a run in the first. With two out, Isabella Wilson hit ball to third that
Jamie Widule stopped but couldn't get the final out of the frame as Taylor Zawacki scored from third.

Koral Keehner brought home another run in the third inning with a ground out to second base that scored Ella Brinkley from third. Wilson doubled to left center to bring home Malia Bender with the final run of the frame.

The Tritons answered in the fourth.
Simia Spahiev hit an RBI double down the right field line to drive in Widule. Later in the inning,
Hannah Tomlianovich singled to left field to bring Spahiev home to cut the deficit to 3-2.

UMSL had six hits in the first game with Widule and Spahiev recording two apiece.
Ashley Ware pitched seven innings, giving up three runs on seven hits.

Game 2: UIS 6 UMSL 4
The Tritons jumped out to an early lead in the second game of the double header.
Kaytie Kossina hit an RBI single into center field past a diving Rosie Bartletti at short to bring home Widule.

Tomlianovich extended the Triton lead in the third inning with a RBI single to right field, bringing home Widule.
Lexi Sherrick added to UMSL's lead in the third inning with an RBI single to left to make it 3-0.

In the fourth inning, Tomlianovich picked up her second RBI of the game, singling to third base and bringing home Widule.

UIS answered in the sixth inning when Wilson singled up the middle to get the Prairie Stars on the board and cut the Triton lead in half.

In the seventh, Addyson McClure started the UIS rally with a double down the left field line that deflected off the glove of Spahiev. After a fly out, Zawacki doubled to center scoring McClure and then Brinkley doubled inside the left field line to bring home Zawacki with the tying run.

UMSL had chances in the seventh and eighth innings but couldn't bring home the winning run.

UIS scored twice in the ninth capitalizing on a two-out error to win the game. Zawacki hit a two-out double to left center and scored on Brinkley's ground ball to second.
Gwyn Miller fielded it but her throw to first was low and Tomlianovich couldn't dig it out of the dirt. Bender followed with a double to center scoring Brinkley.

The Tritons finished with 12 hits in the nightcap and were led by Widule and Tomlianovich with three hits apiece. Sherrick took the loss in game two giving up two unearned runs in the ninth.

UMSL returns to the diamond on Saturday hosting McKendree in a doubleheader at the Maryville Athletic Complex on the campus of Maryville University at 1 p.m.
