ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team fell to Maryville 62-59 in the quarterfinal round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament on Friday evening at Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo. The Saints, seeded fifth, improve to 15-14.

The first quarter was all Tritons, seeded fourth, with
Alex Wolff scoring the first basket for UMSL. When Maryville tied it up,
Kate Rolfes answered with a three before Wolff added another two-point basket.

With under two minutes remaining in the quarter,
Morgan Ramthun made a three-pointer to give the Tritons a 12-point lead.
Katie Hamill extended it to 13 with a free-throw, before Maryville battled back sending the Tritons into the second quarter leading 24-14.

The Saints stormed back in the second, scoring the first seven points of the stanza.

Midway through the second quarter, the game became a three-point contest. Maryville made a three to even the score at 26. Rolfes answered on the next possession, scoring a three of her own. The Saints scored another to pull ahead by a point before
Audrey Martinez-Stewart scored a driving layup to put UMSL back on top.

The Tritons went into the locker room down 41-37 thanks to two more three-point makes by the Saints.

Wolff scored the first basket of the third quarter, getting UMSL going after a defensive stop. A three-point make by Martinez-Stewart saw the Tritons retake the lead three minutes into the third.

Three-point shooting continued to play a key role as Hamill made a three-pointer with 0:50 left to give UMSL a six-point lead. The Saints answered with a three-point make of their own on the next play to cut the Triton lead to three going into the final quarter.

It would be a one-point Triton lead until Hamill made her second free-throw 2:30 seconds into the fourth, putting UMSL on the board for the first time in the quarter.

With less than 7.9 seconds to play, the Tritons were down by three, having regained possession on a jump ball during Maryville's inbounding play. Rolfes shot for the tie off but was off the mark. UMSL had one final chance at the basket but Rolfes' shot at the buzzer was blocked ending the Tritons season.

UMSL finished the contest shooting 44 percent (24-for-54) from the field including 7-of-16 from three but shot only 36 percent (4-for-11) at the foul line. The Tritons outrebounded Maryville 35-to-30 but were outscored 11-9 in second chance points. Rolfes led UMSL with 12 points while
Mara Rieder added 10 points.

The Saints shot 40 percent (23-for-57) for the contest including 10-of-24 from three and 75 percent at the foul line. Claire Rake led all scorers with 18 points while Gracie Stugart and Annika Pluemmer had 13 points apiece.

The Tritons finish their season with a 19-9 record overall, going 13-7 in the GLVC.
