ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team swept past Quincy in a non-conference match 7-0 on Tuesday at the UMSL Tennis Courts. The Tritons improve to 7-2 while the Hawks drop to 6-8.
UMSL won all three doubles matches to take the opening point of the contest.
Anna Favaron and
Morgan Lint beat Ana Alvarez and Anna Matino 6-0 at number two doubles and the Tritons number one doubles team of
Hannah Tse and
Aleksandra Lopez handed Mahi Panchal and Katrin Ismailova a 6-2 defeat and the No. 3 squad of
Guiliana Cunza and
Lauren Sweeney knocked off Nora Hennessy and Brittney Kelly 6-0.
UMSL extended its lead in the match to 2-0 as Lopez won in straight sets over Ismailova 6-3, 6-2 in the second singles contest. Tse, ranked No. 19 in Division II, handed Panchal a 6-2, 6-1 defeat at number one singles and Sweeney won the clinching match beating Hennessy 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Cunza picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Matino in number four singles play while Favaron rallied for a 2-7, 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 win over Alvarez at number three singles.
Emma Bridges completed the sweep with a straight sets win over Kelly 6-1, 6-1.
The Tritons return to the courts on Friday as they travel down to Bolivar, Mo., to take on Southwest Baptist at 2 p.m. at the Bryant Tennis Center.
