ST. LOUIS -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team dropped a closely contested contest 1-0 against Northwest Missouri State on Wednesday evening at Don Dallas Field. The Tritons drop to 1-2 on the season while the Bearcats move to 2-1.
Northwest scored the lone goal of the game in the 51st minute. Margaret Madden benefited from a high, arching cross from Makenna West. The ball sailed across the face of the goal and fell to Madden, who poked it home at the back post for her second goal of the season.
UMSL outshot the Bearcats 8-0 in the first half, winning second balls, and dominating the midfield.
Josie Maddox had the run of the left wing, sending crosses into the box. The Tritons were unable to capitalize on their chances.
The second half saw both teams manage five shots with the Tritons best effort coming moments after
Olivia Lautz subbed in. The ball bounced to her in the box and she put the ball on frame but Lily Ellis made the save.
Rylee Griffith made two saves in the contest and prevented a dangerous opportunity for the Bearcats midway through the second, coming out to midfield to play the ball before an onrushing opponent could get to it.
The Tritons begin conference play against Drury (1-0) at Don Dallas Field this Sunday at 12 p.m.
