ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team fell to Missouri Baptist 6-1 on Friday at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis.
The Tritons are 0-1 while the Spartans are 1-0.
MBU won all three doubles matches to clinch the opening point of the dual. UMSL's
Percy Siercke and
Daniel Berdecio lost to Luca Ebenriter and Sebastian Junghanns 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, Omar Farahat and Strahinja Radanovic defeated
Henry Roberts and
Joan Garros in the second doubles contest 6-3 and Ruslan Anurev and Arkhip Tokmakov beat
Jose Yañez and
Bautista Rooney 6-1.
The Tritons lone win in the dual came at No. 3 singles with Roberts outlasting Junghanns in three sets. Roberts won the opener in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-4) but Junghanns won the second set in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-5) to force the decisive third set. In that third set, Roberts held on for the 10-7 win to secure the victory.
Siercke and Ebenriter also went the distance at No. 1 singles. Ebenriter won the first set 6-2 but Siercke bounced back with a 6-4 win in the second set. The two sides went back-and-forth in the third set tiebreak but it was Ebenriter coming out on top 10-8. Berdecio fell to Radanovic in straight sets 3-6, 4-6, Rooney dropped his match with Tokmakov 2-6, 2-6, Garros lost to Anurev 3-6, 3-6 and Yañez fell to Farahat 6-7 (4-7), 1-6.
UMSL is back in action on Friday (Oct. 3) hosting William Woods at 3 p.m. at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
