ROLLA, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team had its three-game unbeaten streak snapped with a 2-0 loss at Missouri S&T on Friday evening in Rolla, Mo. The Tritons fall to 1-2-3, 1-1-2 GLVC while the Miners improve to 4-1-1, 2-1 GLVC.
S&T struck first with a goal in the 11th minute. Joseph Sommer found Mike Banasik and he beat
Jack Franklin for his second goal of the season.
UMSL had chances for the equalizer in both the 20th and 33rd minutes.
Kyler Sorber's towards the upper left corner was turned away by Cavitt Bruhn in the 20th minute and
Alexander Ramirez Aoueiss tried to beat Bruhn to the lower right corner in the 33rd minute but once again Bruhn was equal to the task.
The Tritons started the second half pressing for the equalizer and took five shots landing two on goal but were unable to break through.
The Miners added an insurance goal with less than 14 minutes to play as Joao Vieira scored his second goal of the season with an assist from Jake Salazar-Blair.
UMSL outshot S&T 10-9 in the contest but the Miners held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Tritons took seven corner kicks to three for S&T.
UMSL was led by
Benjamin Ocampo who took four shots including one on goal in the contest while Sorber and Ramirez Aoueiss had two shots apiece. Franklin made two saves in goal.
The Tritons conclude their road trip on Sunday traveling to Jefferson City to take on Lincoln at 2:30 p.m. at the Jefferson City High School Soccer Field.
