ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team opened its 2025 season playing to a 1-1 draw at Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday evening at Panther Field in Owensboro, Ky. The Tritons are 0-0-1 while the Panthers are 0-0-1.
UMSL jumped out to a quick lead thanks to a goal from
Tommy Wortham in the fifth minute of play. Wortham's shot found the upper right corner for his first collegiate goal. The Tritons had a chance to extend their lead 17 minutes later but
Alexander Ramirez Aouesiss's shot was saved by Iver Sjavag.
KWC scored the equalizer in the 41st minute as Mattie McNally found the back with an assist from Haakon Torvbraaten.
UMSL had a chance to retake the lead shortly before halftime but
Solomon Wanyonyi's shot hit off the left woodwork and stayed out.
The Tritons had two chances in the final 20 minutes of play to retake the lead. Wortham had a chance in the 75th minute but his shot hit the crossbar and with 5:48 to play Aoueiss had his shot saved by Sjavag.
UMSL finished the contest outshooting the Panthers 6-4 but each team had three shots on goal.
The Tritons return to the pitch next Wednesday (Sept. 10) traveling to Chicago to take on Roosevelt at 6 p.m.
