ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis opened the fall portion of its schedule at the SIU Edwardsville Cougar Invite at the SIUE Tennis Courts on Friday and Saturday.
The Tritons were led by
Aleksandra Lopez who went 2-0 in singles play. She rallied to defeat SIUE's Jessica Li in three sets on Friday afternoon. Lopez dropped the first set 6-0 but won the next two 6-3 and the tiebreak 10-5. On Saturday, she beat Saint Louis's Fiorella Duran in three sets 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (2-7) and 10-6.
Alexandra Cedeno went 1-1 over the weekend. She won her first match against SIUE's Emerson Metzger 8-0 but fell to SLU's Nicolly Ferreira 6-4, 5-7, 5-10 on Saturday.
In doubles play on Saturday,
Hannah Tse and
Morgan Lint defeated SLU's Ferreira and Emmerson White 6-3 while Cedeno and
Lauren Sweeney went 1-1. They defeated SIUE's Emerson Metzger and Chloe Koons in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-5). Cedeno and Sweeney dropped their first doubles match to SIUE's Paloma Hennicaux and Mya Bowe 6-1.
UMSL returns to the courts this Friday (Sept. 12) hosting Missouri Baptist in a dual match at 10 a.m. at Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
