ST. LOUIS -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team bounced back from a rough loss on Thursday with a 78-64 win over Lincoln on Saturday afternoon at the Mark Twain Building.. The Tritons improve to 11-8, 5-5 GLVC while the Blue Tigers drop to 7-10, 1-8 GLVC.
Two quick layups from
Vincent Davis III got UMSL going early in the first half before both teams settled into a back-and-forth rhythm. Just before the midpoint of the Tritons hit three consecutive three-pointers, building a six-point lead.
The Tritons kept the Blue Tigers off the board for the final 2:56 of the first half while going on an 8-0 run themselves. To take a 46-34 lead into the locker at halftime.
The second half started with another Davis run, as he scored UMSL's first five points of the half.
Lincoln chipped away at the Tritons' lead as it cut the lead to 51-43 on a free throw by D'Necco Rucker but an 8-2 run allowed UMSL to extend its lead back to double digits and the Blue Tigers wouldn't get closer than 13 points the rest of the way.
Taye Moore had four points in that run.
Mini runs from the Tritons dominated the second half aided by free-throw shooting from Moore and
Colby Dolphin. UMSL led by as many as 19 in the contest after a conventional three-point play from
Demetris Phillips with 2:18 left.
Lincoln scored the final five points of the contest for the final margin.
The Tritons shot 46 percent (27-for-59) from the field including 10-of-23 (44 percent) from three and shot 78 percent at the foul line. They forced the Blue Tigers into 14 turnovers with 10 steals and had an eight-point edge in points off turnovers.
Moore led UMSL with 18 points, six rebounds, six assists, and three steals.
Jake Hamilton added 12 points, five assists, and four steals while Davis had 11 points and nine rebounds and Phillips contributed 10 points.
Lincoln shot 42 percent (24-for-58) from the floor, was 9-of-27 from three and shot 78 percent at the foul line. Solomon Oraegbu finished with a game-high 19 points while Malcom Davis added 17 points.
UMSL concludes its three-game homestand next Saturday (Jan. 24) against Maryville at 3 p.m.
