St. Louis—The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw against McKendree on Wednesday night at Leemon Field in Lebanon, Ill. The Tritons are 5-5-3, 4-4-3 GLVC while the Bearcats are 3-7-3, 2-5-3 GLVC.
UMSL had 13 shots, four on net in the contest. Perhaps their best chance came 16 minutes into the game.
Nico Wingren knocked down a header at the far post that Luka Srzic blocked, leading to chaos in the six-yard box until McKendree was able to clear the ball.
The Bearcats had their best chance in the waning moments of the first half, sending a first chance ball into the box that
Will Winkler parried away. Wingren cleared the second chance effort off the goal line to keep the game scoreless.
The Tritons had a chance to go up a goal in the closing moments of the second half, creating a turnover off the press and sending numbers forward but
Benjamin Ocampo's went just wide with less than a minute to play.
It was Winkler's second consecutive shutout and fourth of the season. Credited with one save, the keeper's high positioning helped UMSL cut off potentially dangerous balls and restart the attack.
The Tritons conclude their two-game road trip on Saturday traveling to Liberty, Mo., to take on William Jewell at 2:30 p.m. at the William Jewell Soccer/Lacrosse Field.
