St. Louis – University of Missouri–St. Louis soccer standouts
Ella Anselm and
Brady Freeman have been named the Raising Cane's Student-Athletes of the Month for October. Both players delivered key performances during the month while helping their teams advance to the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Tournament.
Anselm helped lead the eighth-ranked Tritons to an undefeated October, an outright GLVC regular-season championship, and a berth in the conference tournament semifinals.
Her biggest performance came on October 17 against William Jewell, when she recorded the first hat trick of her collegiate career in UMSL's 9-0 victory. The three-goal effort was the highest individual scoring performance by a Triton this season.
Anselm continued her strong play four days later, scoring in UMSL's 5-0 victory over Maryville as the Tritons secured the outright GLVC regular-season championship. She finished October leading UMSL with nine goals and 21 points on the season, including two game-winning goals.
The Tritons closed the month with a 1-0 victory over Lewis in the GLVC Tournament quarterfinals on October 31, improving to 14-1-3 overall. Anselm nearly added another goal in the contest, striking the crossbar in the second half as UMSL advanced to the conference semifinals.
Freeman led the Tritons' offensive attack throughout October, helping UMSL secure a GLVC Tournament berth and advance to the conference semifinals for the first time since 2012.
His signature performance came on October 3 against Truman State, when he scored both goals in a 2-1 victory. The two-goal effort included a spectacular bicycle kick and marked his second multi-goal game of the season.
Freeman finished October as UMSL's leading scorer with eight goals and 16 points. He also recorded four game-winning goals, accounting for half of the Tritons' eight victories through the end of the month.
His offensive presence helped UMSL navigate a competitive conference schedule and secure the No. 6 seed in the GLVC Tournament. The Tritons closed October with a 1-0 overtime upset of No. 22 and third-seeded Drury on October 31, earning their first postseason victory since 2012 and improving to 8-6-3 overall.
The Raising Cane's Student-Athlete of the Month award recognizes one male and one female UMSL student-athlete for outstanding athletic performances during the month.
UMSL Athletics thanks Raising Cane's for its continued partnership and support of Triton student-athletes and their accomplishments.
