MANSFIELD, Texas – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball split its final two games in the Lone Star Classic on Sunday afternoon at the Fields at Station 63 in Mansfield, Texas. The Tritons defeated Northwest Missouri 6-2 in their second game after falling to Texas Woman's University 4-1 in their opener.
Game 2 – UMSL 6 Northwest Missouri State 2
UMSL (3-2) scored three runs on four hits and an error in the home half of the second.
May Pasqualini drove in
Rylie Buchanan with the first run on an RBI single to right center.
Jamie Widule drove in two more with a two out single to left.
The Tritons added to their lead in the third.
Kiley Sullivan singled up the middle scoring
Phoebe Miller from second to make it 4-0 and then Pasqualini went the other dropping a single into left center scoring
Kaytie Kossina and Sullivan.
The Bearcats (2-3) got an RBI single from Omara Love and an RBI double from Timber Wilson in the fourth to cut UMSL's lead to four.
UMSL finished with eight hits in the contest led by Pasqualini and Sullivan with two each.
Ashley Borowitz picked up the win to improve to 2-0. She threw a complete game allowing two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.
Game 1 – Texas Woman's University 4 UMSL 1
UMSL jumped out to the early lead with a run in the top of the first on
Gracie Philpot's RBI double to center that scored Widule.
The Pioneers (1-2) countered with two runs in their half of the first. Tamia Cherry stole third and scored on a throwing error to tie the game, later in the inning Trinity Perry was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded scoring Malarie Medina.
TWU extended its lead in the third on a two-run home run to right off the bat of Madison Lux.
The Tritons loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth to bring the go-ahead run to the plate but Miller flew out to right to end the inning.
UMSL outhit the Pioneers 6-3 in the contest and were led by Kossina with pair of them. Philpot took the loss giving up two runs on one hit with three walks and a hit by pitch in one inning pitched to fall to 0-1 on the season.
The Tritons return to the diamond on Friday (February 13) against Pittsburg State at 11 a.m., in the Division II Battle at the Branson Rec Plex in Branson, Mo.
