CLAREMORE, Okla. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team hit three home runs in its 10-6 over Rogers State in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at the RCB Bank Sports Complex in Claremore, Okla. The Tritons improve to 3-5 while the Hillcats drop to 6-2.
Rogers State took the early lead on a two-out RBI single through the left side of the infield off the bat off Jake Mitchell that scored Tyler Nelson from second.
UMSL tied the game in the fourth on
Owen Faith's two-out home run to right center.
The Tritons sent eight batters to the plate in the fifth scoring five runs on four hits and a walk.
Cade Grevengoed hit a two-run home run to right center to give UMSL a 3-1 lead. Later in the frame
Justin Terhaar brought home
Ethan Landis with a sacrifice fly to left.
Mitch Bonczkowski followed with a two-run home run to center bringing home
Cooper Blythe.
The Hillcats cut the Triton lead in half with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
UMSL extended its lead with two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. The Tritons' first run in the seventh scored on a throwing error by the pitcher on a sacrifice bunt from Bonczkowski. Faith made it 8-3 with a sacrifice fly to center scoring Terhaar.
Terhaar made it 10-3 in the eighth with a two-single to right scoring
LJ Randle and Landis.
Rogers State used a two-out rally in the eighth to score three runs for the final tally.
UMSL outhit the Hillcats 11-8 in the contest and were led by Terhaar, Bonczkowski, Faith, Grevengoed and Landis with two apiece. Terhaar drove in three runs while Bonczkowski, Faith and Grevengoed had two RBI each.
Will O'Gorman got the start on the mound and gave up one run on three hits with four strikeouts in four innings pitched.
Matt Devoy pitched the fifth and sixth innings giving up two runs on two hits with three strikeouts to earn his first win of the season.
Dustin Hagens threw the final three innings giving up three runs on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts to earn his first save of the season.
The Tritons return to the diamond on Friday (February 20) traveling to Springfield, Ill., to take on Illinois Springfield in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. at the UIS Baseball Field.
