UMSL Men Picked First, Women Second in GLVC Preseason Golf Coaches Polls

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's golf team is the favorite to win the Great Lakes Valley Conference title while the women were picked to finish second in their respective GLVC Preseason Coaches polls, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

The preseason poll is selected by the league's head coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own team.

The Triton men received four first-place votes and 136 points to edge out Missouri S&T for the top spot in the poll. The Miners, the defending GLVC champions, garnered nine first-place votes and 134 total points. Drury landed in third with 110 points followed by Indianapolis in fourth with 105 points.

UMSL earned the number one seed in the match play portion of the GLVC Championships but lost to UIndy in the semifinal round. The Tritons placed 17th at last season's NCAA Championships and are currently ranked 30th in NCAA Division II and second in the Midwest region by Clippd Rankings.

Troy Halterman, the reigning GLVC Coach of the Year, is in his 18th season at the helm of the men's golf program. UMSL returns 2025 GLVC Freshman of the Year Logan Mayo along with First Team All-GLVC honorees Trigg Lindahl and Dani Solavera.

The Triton women were edged out by UIndy for the top spot in the women's poll. The Greyhounds, the defending GLVC Champions, picked up 139 points and 10 first place votes while UMSL garnered 135 points and the other three-first place votes. Lewis was picked to finish third with 122 points followed by McKendree in fourth (104 points).

The Tritons lost to UIndy in last season's GLVC Championship match and went onto finish 14th at the NCAA Championships in Boulder City, Nev. UMSL is currently ranked 26th in Division II and fifth in the East region by Clippd rankings.

Halterman is in his 11th season at the helm of the women's program and has four returners from last year's conference runners-up including GLVC Player of the Year Wilma Zanderau, GLVC Freshman of the Year Mayan Covarrubias and first team honorees Hillary Currier and Emmy Wahl.

The Triton men open their spring schedule at the Houston Classic in Humble, Texas next Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 9-10) with the Triton women beginning the following week at the Southern Invite (Feb. 16-17) in Spring, Texas.
