ST. LOUIS -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team split its home opening double header with Missouri S&T, winning the first game 4-2 before dropping the second 7-4 at the UMSL Softball Field on Saturday afternoon. The Tritons are 11-15, 4-2 GLVC while the Miners are 15-11, 2-2 GLVC.

GAME 1: UMSL 4, S&T 2

S&T opened the scoring in game one when AJ Agers doubled over the head of
Keira Hayton in right to bring home Claire Lopez from second base. Lopez had stolen second to put herself in scoring position after reaching on a fielder's choice.

All four of UMSL's runs came in the fifth inning, starting with a
Jamie Widule double down the left field line that brought home Hayton and
Madison Rozanski.
Kaytie Kossina followed with a single back up the middle brining Widule in from third and then
Kiley Sullivan doubled to center field to bring in Kossina and put the Tritons up 4-1.

The Miners got one run back in the top of the seventh off an RBI single from Molly Fitzgerald that brought Kiera Jones home from third. S&T had the go-ahead run at the plate but
Ashley Borowitz struck out Tori Thompson swinging to end the game.

UMSL had six hits in the opener and was led by Widule with two while Kossina, Sullivan,
Gracie Philpot and Hayton had one each.

Ashley Ware picked up the win, moving to 4-1 on the season, going five innings giving up one run on five hits with two strikeouts. Borowitz earned the save, her second of the year, with two innings pitched, giving up one run with two strikeouts.

GAME 2: S&T 7, UMSL 4

Game two was an all Taylor Nelson affair for the Miners. In the first inning, Nelson hit a two home run to center field before Molly Fitgerald walked with the bases loaded to bring home the third S&T run.

Nelson hit a nearly identical solo home run to centerfield with one out in the second inning before hitting her third home run in the fifth inning, this time to the left of center. Thompson added a two-run homer to left field to bring in the final two Miner runs.

The Tritons rallied in the bottom of the seventh scoring four runs on four hits. Both
Kenzie Stoltz and
May Pasqualini singled to get on base before Kossina hit a single to left field that scored Stolz from second. Sullivan then hit a three-run home run to right field scoring the final three UMSL runs.

The Tritons finished with seven hits in game two and were led by Stoltz with two while Pasqualini, Kossina, Sullivan, Hayton and
Phoebe Miller had one hit each. Stoltz took the loss giving up three runs on two hits to fall to 2-4 on the season.

UMSL continues its six-game homestand on Sunday hosting Lincoln in a doubleheader starting at noon at the UMSL Softball Field.
