SAN DIEGO – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team dropped the first of its three matches in southern California this week to Point Loma 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the PLNU Tennis Courts in San Diego. The Tritons fall to 3-7 while the Sea Lions improve to 4-7.
PLNU won the first two doubles contests to win the opening point of the dual. It's number one team of Stanislas Noel and Finn Kirschner defeated
Percy Siercke and
Daniel Berdecio 6-3 and its second squad of Marcos Alogo-Piqueras and David Fisinger defeated
Henry Roberts and
Joan Garros 6-1. The third doubles match between
Andrea Ricart and
Jose Yañez and Paul Sobich and Rhyson Chiang was unfinished with Sobich and Chiang leading 3-2 when doubles play was called.
The Sea Lions won all six singles contests to clinch the victory. Noel defeated Siercke in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 at number one singles, Alogo-Piqueras beat Yañez 6-3, 6-0 and Leo Bormann knocked off
Bautista Rooney 6-0, 6-4.
Roberts fell to Kirschner 2-6, 4-6 at number four singles, Ricart lost to Sobich 5-7, 2-6 and Berdecio came up short against Fisinger in number two singles play. Berdecio lost the first set 6-3, came back from a 3-0 deficit to win set two 6-3 and lost in the third set tiebreak 1-0.
