EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team dropped its series opener to Hillsdale, 10-3 on Friday evening at Roy E. Lee Field at Simmons Baseball Complex in Edwardsville, Ill. The Tritons drop to 4-10 on the season while the Chargers improve to 4-7.
Hillsdale took the lead three pitches into the game as Gaard Swenson hit a 2-0 pitch to straight away center for his second home run of the season. The Chargers added another run in the second on an RBI single from Aaron Jasiak.
UMSL got on the board in its half of the second on an RBI single off the bat of
Ayden Cline scoring
Brandon Johnson.
Hillsdale got a sacrifice fly from Ryan Wiehe in the third to make it 3-1 and then scored four runs in the fourth highlighted by a three-run home run to left center from Will Lehman.
The Tritons got an RBI double from
Owen Faith and an RBI single from
Jimi Oguntuase in the fourth to cut the deficit to 7-3.
Lehman came through again in the sixth for the Chargers driving in two more with a two-out single to right center. Hillsdale's final run came in the ninth on an RBI single from Swenson.
UMSL was held to six hits in the contest with Johnson and Oguntuase registering two each.
Bryce Nicolay took the loss surrendering seven runs on nine hits in four innings pitched.
