ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team fell to No. 15 UIndy 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis. The Tritons drop to 3-13, 0-2 GLVC while the Greyhounds improve to 11-4, 2-0 GLVC.
UIndy clinched the opening point of the dual by winning all three doubles contests. It's number one tandem of Asier Ayllon Prado and Matthieu Derache defeated UMSL's top doubles team of
Tommy Griese and
Percy Siercke 6-3. The duo of Tadeo Gaggiofatto and Zaid Shelbaya beat
Henry Roberts and
Joan Garros 6-1 and the team of Lorenzo Di Cursi and Jovan Matovic defeated
Daniel Berdecio and
Andrea Ricart in a tiebreak by the score of 7-6 (7-4).
The Hounds claimed all six singles contests to complete the sweep. Di Cursi started singles play with a straight set win over
Jose Yañez 6-2, 6-1 at number six singles. Shelbaya followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Ricart. Gaggiofatto, ranked No. 34 in singles in Division II, defeated Siercke 6-2, 6-1 to clinch the win. Derache rallied for a three-set win over Berdecio 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-3), Prado, ranked No. 14 in singles in Division II, beat Griese 6-4, 7-5 and Matovic defeated Roberts 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4).
The Tritons are back in action next Saturday (April 18) hosting Maryville at 11 a.m. at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
