SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team defeated Illinois Springfield 6-1 in its season finale on Saturday afternoon at the Springfield Racquet and Fitness Center in Springfield, Ill.
The win snapped the Triton's nine-match losing streak
UMSL won the first point of the dual by taking two of the three doubles contests. It's top duo of
Tommy Griese and
Percy Siercke lost to Pablo Herrera and Lin En Tan 6-2 but it's second team of
Daniel Berdecio and
Henry Roberts defeated Miran Todorovic and Kai Van-Roon 6-2 while its number three team of
Joan Garros and
AJ Burrows handed Lukas Pieringer and Antonio Streubel a 7-5 defeat.
Berdecio gave the Tritons a 2-0 lead in the match sweeping Tan 6-4, 6-2. The Prairie Stars (7-11, 0-4 GLVC) lone point came at No. 1 singles as Herrera won by retirement over Griese. Siercke gave UMSL a 3-1 lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Streubel and then Garros clinched the victory with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Pieringer at No. 6 singles.
Roberts rallied for a three-set win over Van-Roon by scores of 5-7, 6-4 and 1-0 (10-3) while
Jose Yañez won in three sets against Luke Pennington 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 1-0 (10-6).
UMSL finishes its season with an overall record of 4-14 including 1-3 in the GLVC.
