ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team completed its four-game series sweep of Lincoln rallying for an 11-6 win at the UMSL Baseball Field on Sunday afternoon. The Tritons improve to 27-19, 21-7 GLVC while the Blue Tigers are 6-38, 0-28 GLVC.
Lincoln struck first with a pair of runs in the second inning. Jacob Schulte drove in the first run as he drew a bases loaded walk with one out in the second. Andy Srebroski IV made it 2-0 reaching on a fielder's choice to second.
The Blue Tigers got two more runs in the fourth on a RBI single to right center from Srebroski IV and a double to left center from Jayden Little to make it 4-0 after three and a half innings.
UMSL chipped away starting with two runs in the fifth.
Luke Saxton brought home a run with a fielder's choice to second and then
Justin Simard singled to short as Daren Walters-Ansell lost the ball in the sun allowing
Mitch Bonczkowski to score.
The Tritons took the lead thanks to a pair of home runs in the sixth.
Brandon Johnson led off the inning with a solo home run to left center and after two walks, Bonczkowski hit a three-run home run to left just over the outstretched glove of Schulte for his team and GLVC leading 19th home run of the season.
UMSL tacked on three more in the seventh as Johnson scored on a wild pitch and
LJ Randle hit a two-run single off the first baseman's glove to make it 9-4. The Tritons final two runs scored in the eighth as
Justin Terhaar walked with the bases loaded and Bonczkowski was hit by a pitch to make it 11-4.
The four RBIs in the contest for Bonczkowski tied him with
Andrew Buescher for the most in a single season with 59.
Lincoln scored a pair of runs in the ninth on an RBI single from Hunter Mitchell and an RBI double from Tim Fleming.
UMSL finished with 11 hits in the contest and was led by Randle, Bonczkowski, Simard and
Cade Grevengoed with two each.
Mitch Schleeper pitched a scoreless fifth and sixth innings to earn the win and improved to 1-2 on the season.
The Tritons wrap up their regular season next weekend with a four-game series at Maryville starting on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Weber Field on the Maryville campus.
