FULTON, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team dropped its non-conference match to ninth ranked William Woods 4-2 on Friday afternoon at the Suzanne Neal Memorial Tennis Complex in Fulton, Mo. The Tritons fall to 3-10 on the season while the Owls improve to 11-4.
William Woods clinched the first point of the dual by winning two of the three doubles contests. Its number three team of Jesper Seger and Bruno Matta defeated
Joan Garros and
AJ Burrows by the score of 6-1 and its number two squad of Tobias Hajek and Cole Horton beat
Jose Yañez and
Bautista Rooney 6-2.
Daniel Berdecio leveled the match for UMSL winning the number two singles match over Horton in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. The Owls took the third and fourth singles contests to grab a 3-1 lead in the match.
Percy Siercke brought the Tritons within 3-2 with his win at number one singles over Melo Duarte. Siercke won the opening set 6-3, lost the second set 7-5 and rallied in the third set tiebreak to win 11-9. WWU clinched the match with Tomas Guadagni's win over Rooney at number five singles.
UMSL is back in action on Saturday hosting No. 44 Drury at 1 p.m. at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
