ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team battled in a 4-1 loss to No. 42 Drury on Saturday afternoon at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis. The Tritons drop to 3-11 while the Panthers are now 8-5.
Drury won the first two doubles matches to win the opening point of the contest. Its number one team of Chuy Gonzalez and Tristan Stock defeated
Tommy Griese and
Percy Siercke 6-2 while its second team of Oscar Reis and Marco Romano beat
Joan Garros and
Henry Roberts 6-4. The third doubles match was abandoned.
The Panthers got a win at number two singles to extend its lead to 2-0 as Matthieu Gachon beat Siercke in three sets 6-3, 2-6, 6-1. UMSL got on the board with a win at number three singles as
Daniel Berdecio rallied for a three-set win over Romano 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-2. Griese won the opening set of hist match against Gonzalez 6-2 but Gonzalez rallied to win the last two 6-1, 6-1 to Drury a 3-1 lead in the match. The Panthers clinched it at number four singles was Stock beat Roberts 7-6, 6-3. The final two singles contests were abandoned.
The Tritons continue their four-match homestand this Friday (April 10) hosting McKendree at 2 p.m. at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis.
