INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team defeated Maryville 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at Center Grove High School in Indianapolis to advance to the championship match of the Great Lakes Valley Conference on Sunday. The Tritons are 14-4 while the Saints end their season at 7-7.
UMSL won the opening point of the match winning the first two doubles contests.
Aleksandra Lopez and
Millie Wileman beat Luana Luersen and Grace Brown 6-3 at number two doubles while
Hannah Tse and
Morgan Lint beat Isabella Alvarez and Nazil Saka 7-5. The third doubles match was unfinished as the Tritons had already won the doubles point.
Wileman gave UMSL a 2-0 lead beating Mira Vasileva 6-4, 6-0 at number three singles. Lopez followed with a 6-4, 6-0 win against Saka at number two singles and Tse clinched the victory rallying for a three-set win against Alvarez 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 6-3 in number one singles play.
Anna Favaron fell in her match against Luersen 6-1, 3-6, 4-6 at number five singles.
The Tritons will play UIndy for the GLVC title on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. (CDT) at Center Grove High School. The Greyhounds, seeded second in the GLVC East, defeated West No. 1 seed Rockhurst 4-2 in the other semifinal on Saturday.
