ALLENDALE, Mich. – In its first NCAA appearance since 2018, the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team fell to Davenport x-x in the first round of the NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday afternoon at the GVSU Tennis Courts in Allendale, Mich.
UMSL, seeded fourth, won two of the three doubles matches to secure the opening point of the contest. It's number three team of
Giuliana Cunza and
Lauren Sweeney won 6-0 against Skye Vandeleur and Alice Maccani while its number two squad of
Aleksandra Lopez and
Millie Wileman beat Maja Sandstrom and Addison Lind by the score of 6-2. The number one doubles between
Hannah Tse and
Morgan Lint went unfinished with Tse and Lint leading 5-2 when the doubles point was clinched.
Davenport (18-8), seeded fifth, tied it up as Sienna Opray won by retirement over Wileman at number three singles. The Panthers won both the number six and five singles matches as Lind defeated Sweeney 6-3, 6-0 and Lotte Federski beat Cunza 6-4, 6-2.
The Tritons got a win from Tse in the No. 1 singles contest as she beat Vandeleur 6-3, 6-4 to make it 3-2. Davenport clinched the victory as Amy Bloch defeated Lopez 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) at number two singles. The final singles match went unfinished.
UMSL finishes its season with a record of 15-5 including 4-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference's East Division and won its first conference title in program history.
