St. Louis – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team rallied for a 4-1 win over Illinois Springfield with all four goals coming in the second half on Saturday evening at Don Dallas Field. The Tritons improve to 6-1-2, 5-0-1 GLVC while the Prairie Stars drop to 4-4-1, 2-3-1 GLVC.
The win for UMSL snaps a five-game losing streak against UIS at Don Dallas Field and is the first win over the Prairie Stars in St. Louis since September 16, 2016.
The Tritons dominated the first half outshooting UIS 12-3 including 3-1 in shots on goal and hit the crossbar once and the right post twice in the first 45 minutes.
The Prairie Stars scored the game's first goal in the 44th minute. Bridget Lyons took a shot that hit off the right post and Mallory Herber scored with a shot off the rebound.
UMSL got the equalizer in the 55th minute.
Rachel Skyberg tried to cross the ball into the box but the ball hit Rachel Riney in the hand giving the Tritons a free kick from 25 yards out.
Maddie Clark took the free kick lifting it over the wall and past Gigi Yurevich for her first goal of the season.
The Tritons scored the go-ahead goal in the 80th minute. Skyberg tried to find
Josie Maddox at the top of the penalty area but it was deflected out to
Ashtyn Fry. Fry found Maddox at the top of the box. Maddox took a couple of dribbles and fired a shot from the top of the penalty area beating Yurevich to the high center of the goal of for her second of the season.
UMSL scored again 74 seconds later as
Avery Hesseldenz drove down the end line and crossed it to Skyberg who tapped it home for her first goal of the season.
The Tritons final goal game in the final two minutes as
Karley Kinzinger headed home a cross from Maddox and
Olivia Lautz for her first goal of the season.
UMSL outshot UIS 22-5 in the contest including 10-2 in shots on goal. Maddox had three points in the victory while Skyberg and Clark had two points apiece.
Allysa Wolf made one save in the win.
The Tritons continue their three match home stand next Wednesday (Sept. 30) hosting Quincy at 5 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
