Applewhite is in his third year at the University of Missouri- St. Louis as the recruiting coordinator and offensive coach. Applewhite previously was a member of Scott Eul's staff at Minot State.
Last season the Triton offense improved on its numbers from the 2023 campaign. The team's batting average rose from .299 to .315. They increased their run total by 73 runs, hit 49 home runs during the season which was good for second most in a single season in school history. The team's 387 runs scored, 521 hits and 337 RBI were all fourth best in a single season. The team also drew 235 walks and recorded 769 total bases which were both fifth best in a single season in school history and the team's on-base percentage of .418 was seventh best in a single season.
In his first season, the Triton offense improved its numbers from 2022. The team batting average rose from .269 to .299, they increased their run total from 245 to 314, drove in 50 more runs, increased its slugging percentage by 31 points, its OPS by 61 points, recorded nearly 100 more hits, 122 more total bases and the team's on-base percentage improved by 30 points.
Prior to UMSL, Applewhite was the assistant coach at Northern Oklahoma- Tonkawa, where he was the recruiting/placement coordinator and hitting coach. The Maverick offense saw a rise in multiple offensive categories.
In the 2019-2020 season, coach Applewhite served as the hitting and infield coach at Minot State University under coach Eul. He also helped in the recruiting process.
In the summer of 2019, Applewhite was the head coach of the Bulldogs in the Puerto Rico Collegiate Summer League, where his team finished with a league best 17-8 record, and was third-place overall.
Applewhite began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. There, he coached the hitters and infielders. In his two years at Schreiner, the offense took favorable leaps in all offensive categories. As a Mountaineer, he helped two different players receive the SCAC Hitter of the Week award.
During his playing career, Applewhite played two years of junior college baseball, one at Northern Oklahoma College-Enid and one with Cedar Valley College. Applewhite played his final two years at LeTourneau University in Longview Texas.
Applewhite graduated from LeTourneau with a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. He is finishing his master’s degree in sport management from Minot State University.
