Bruce Smith

Bruce Smith begins his second year as head athletic trainer in 2024-25.

He came to UMSL after two years at Harris-Stowe State University where he was the head athletic trainer the past two years.

Prior to his appointment at Harris-Stowe, Smith spent two years as the Athletic Director at Trinity Catholic High School. Smith spent 30 years working in the Ferguson-Florissant School District. He worked as an athletic trainer and taught physical education at the elementary, middle and high school levels from 1985 until 2006. Smith served as the Athletic Director at McCluer North from 2006-15.

He spent six seasons as an assistant baseball coach at McCluer North High School and coached football, swimming softball and baseball at Berkeley High School.

Smith earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from Evangel in 1984, received his master's degree in curriculum and instruction from National-Louis University in 1996 and his certification in educational administration from Lindenwood in 2006.

He is a licensed athletic trainer and certified in first aid/CPR.
