COACHING EXPERIENCE
  • Enters 13th year as head men’s basketball coach at UMSL, where he owns a record of 216-137 (.612), which includes back-to-back 20-win seasons (2018-19, 2019-20, 2021-22, 2022-23
  • Became the school's all-time winningest coach with an 81-79 against Ferris State on March 15, 2025 
  • Owns a career record of 340-245 (.581) in 19 years as a collegiate head coach
  • Came to UMSL after one year at Eastern Illinois University under Jay Spoonhour
  • Broke into the college coaching ranks as an assistant coach under Norm Stewart at Missouri. From 1978-1991 he helped the Tigers make nine NCAA Tournament appearances while winning six Big Eight Conference Championships and 286 total games.
  • After time at Mizzou, moved on to coach one season at Missouri State (formerly Southwest Missouri State) for Charlie Spoonhour, as the Bears won the 1992 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
  • Following his one season at Missouri State, took over as head coach at Central Missouri State. His Mules teams posted 82 wins with trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament in each of his last three seasons. The 1995 squad was led by NCAA Division II Player of the Year Tyrone Latimer as Central Missouri State advanced to the Elite Eight.
  • From Central Missouri State was hired as the head coach at Missouri-Kansas City serving four years for the Kangaroos. The team posted a winning season in 2000 placing second in the Mid-Continent Conference while winning the school's first conference tournament game. was led by Michael Jackson, the 2000 Mid-Continent Conference Player of the Year.
  • returned to an assistant coach role in 2001 joining the staff at Iowa State. He was instrumental in recruiting three straight Top 20 classes as rated by Hoop Scoop Recruiting. The 2002 class was ranked top five in the nation. The Cyclones made back-to-back post-season NIT appearances in 2003 and 2004 advancing to the national semifinals in Madison Square Garden in 2004.
  • In 2004 returned to the head coaching chair as he was hired as the head coach/general manager of the Kansas City Knights of the ABA. The 2005 squad posted a 19-9 record reaching the ABA playoff quarterfinals. He returned to college game in 2008 as an assistant coach at Toledo. He was named the interim head coach in March of 2010 before entering private business for two years.
OTHER EXPERIENCE
  • In addition to his experience as a coach on the floor, has also worked as a basketball color analyst for ESPN covering Big 12 Conference games along with regional broadcasts for the Missouri Valley Conference, Missouri and Kansas State.

COACHING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Led the Tritons to a 24-11 record in 2022-23 which included a school record best start at 12-0 and the program's highest national ranking at number four.
  • Led UMSL to its first Midwest Regional championship in more than 50 years and a spot in the NCAA Elite Eight tournament.
  • Led UMSL to a 26-7 record in 2021-22 and won the first GLVC championship in program history. He led the Tritons to their first NCAA Tournament victory in 34 years en route to a Sweet 16 appearance.
  • Led the Tritons to the program's best season in the record books during the 2019-20 campaign, finishing with a 27-6 record en route to garnering an NCAA Tournament bid for the first time in 32 years. That team clinched a share of the regular season and advanced to the program's first Tournament championship.
  • spent 10 straight weeks in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll during the 2019-20 year. They received their first national ranking since the 1990-91 season on January 7, coming in at No. 23 and climbed as high as a program-best No. 13 on February 4 before being ranked No. 19 in the final poll.
  • The 2018-19 year saw post a 20-9 record, marking the program's first 20-win season since 1990-91.
  • During the 2014-15 season, directed the team to a 19-11 record, beginning the year 8-0 for the first time in program history securing the program’s fifth straight winning season for the first time in program history.
  • In his first season with the Tritons, directed to a 16-12 record, their fourth straight winning season. The Tritons went 9-9 in the , qualifying for the Tournament, where hosted it’s first-ever Tournament game, garnering a 103-79 win over Missouri S&T.

  • Earned master’s degree from Missouri
FAMILY
  • Younger brother Jon played on four Big Eight Championship teams at Missouri while he was an assistant coach. Jon later went on to play nine seasons in the NBA with Seattle, San Antonio and Miami.
  • Bob and his wife, Denise, have four children: Robert, Ryne, Haley and Cameron.
