Javis Flynn begins his fourth year as an assistant coach on the UMSL men's basketball staff.

In his first three years with the Tritons he's helped guide the team to a record of 63-34 including 36-23 in GLVC play, back-to-back appearances in the Midwest Regional final and GLVC championship game, a Midwest Region and Elite Eight appearance in 2022-23 and a GLVC title in 2021-22. During his tenure, he's helped mentor five All-GLVC selections in Marty Jackson, Yaakema Rose Jr., Isaiah Fuller, Bowen Sandquist and Matt Enright. Fuller and Steve Webb were back-to-back GLVC Defensive Players of the Year in 2021-22 and 2022-23 while Webb, Rose, Fuller and Shane Wissink were named to the GLVC All-Defensive team. Enright was named to the GLVC's All-Freshman team in 2022-23.

He came to UMSL from Illinois Springfield where he spent the 2020-21 season as an assistant coach.
 
Prior to his appointment at UIS, Flynn was an assistant coach at Columbia College during the 2019-20 season. He was part of a program that went 20-12, and had one of the top defenses at the NAIA level. The Cougars ranked in the top-15 nationally in scoring defense, blocks, field-goal percentage defense, and three-point field-goal percentage defense.
 
Flynn spent the 2018-19 season at Missouri Baptist. That squad had the best season in program history, going 28-5 and winning a conference championships. Prior to Missouri Baptist, Flynn was an assistant girls coach for one year at Carl Junction High School in 2017-18. Carl Junction went 23-3 that year and made the first state championship appearance in program history.
 
Flynn was a player at NCAA Division II Pittsburg State where he dished out 299 assists and stole 136 balls in two seasons with the Gorillas. He averaged 6.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 2.2 steals in 61 games at Pittsburg State. Flynn holds the school record for most assists in a game with 12, is third in career steals average, and third in career assists per game. As a senior, he was named honorable mention all-MIAA and to the MIAA all-defensive team.
 
Flynn was an all-conference player at Pratt Community College, which he attended for two seasons. He averaged eight points, four rebounds, and nine assists a game.
