Shea Sumpter

Former Triton Shea Sumpter joined head coach Bob Sundvold's staff in August 2020. He played for Sundvold during the 2013-14 season.

Sumpter comes to UMSL following a year at his high school alma mater, Rich East, where he was the head varsity assistant coach.

Sumpter also spent three years as an assistant at Wabash Valley College, helping the program to 69 wins, which included multiple District 16 and Region 24 championship appearances. The 2017 team won the Region 24 title, while the 2019 team claimed the GRAC conference title. While at Wabash Valley, more than 30 student-athletes went on to the NCAA DI and DII levels.

Sumpter graduated from UMSL in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies with minors in sociology and gender studies.
 
He played in all 28 games for the Tritons during the 2013-14 season and shot 66.7 percent from the field, while averaging 4.0 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.
 
Sumpter transferred to UMSL after one season at Southern Arkansas University and two at Danville Area Community College. As a sophomore at DACC, he was named the Mid-West Athletic Conference Player of the Year after averaging 13 points and seven rebounds per game, while helping the Jaguars to an eighth place finish at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.
