COACHING EXPERIENCE

  • Enters 16th season with the Tritons program, including 15th as head coach in 2024 after serving as an assistant coach for one year.
  • In 14 seasons at the helm of the program, he is 283-141 (.667).
  • Prior to his appointment at UMSL, served as a club coach for St. Louis High Performance, where in each of his six seasons as a head coach, he directed his teams to qualify for the Open Division in Junior Olympics. Young also coached his teams to top 10 finishes in the Open Division in 2007 and 2008.
  • Other coaching experience includes two years as an assistant at St. Louis College of Pharmacy and as an assistant at CBC High School.

 COACHING HIGHLIGHTS
  • His teams have had winning records in 11 of 14 seasons, while 13 of 14 have earned a spot in the GLVC Tournament, including the 2019 team, which played in the program’s first championship match. His teams have appeared in three of the past six GLVC championship matches.
  • The 2023 team posted one of the best seasons in school history finishing with a record of 34-2 overall including 13-0 in the GLVC. They won their first 30 matches of the season and climbed as high as number two in the AVCA Top 25 rankings.
  • The program hosted the NCAA Midwest Regional for the first time ever and won its second straight Midwest Regional crown and advanced to the semifinal round of the NCAA Championships for the second straight year.
  • The 2022 team posted a 25-7 record including 11-1 in the GLVC, won the Midwest Regional and advanced to the semifinal round of the NCAA Championships.
  • 2020 team posted a 16-3 record in a shortened COVID season, which included three wins over ranked teams and the GLVC Central Division regular season title. UMSL itself earned a program-high national ranking of No. 6 and spent 13 weeks of the season nationally ranked, with 10 of those weeks in the top 10.
  • 2019 team posted a 29-5 record, the most wins since 1991, and earned a spot in NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.
  • 2017 team posted a 22-8 record, the program’s most wins since 2008 after beginning the year with a 9-1 record, the best start since 1987
  • 2016 team went 6-1 in five-set matches and rallied from an 0-2 deficit three times en route to finishing 18-12
  • Team was 19-9 in first season in 2011, including 13-5 in GLVC, good for second place in West Division standings
  • As an assistant in 2010, team went 20-9 with the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth since 1995. Tritons also spent nine weeks in the AVCA Division II Coaches Poll, debuting September 13 at No. 25, marking the first national ranking for the program since 1993. reached a high ranking of No. 19 and went 2-3 against teams ranked in the Top 25 during the regular season, including victories over then No. 15 Truman State (3-0) and then No. 8 Lewis (3-0).

PLAYING EXPERIENCE
  • Played four years at Missouri Baptist (2005-08), where he earned second team all-conference honors
  • Helped lead his team to NAIA third place finishes in 2005 and 2007.
  • Prepped at CBC High School in St. Louis from 2001-04, earning first team all-metro honors as a senior and second team honors as a junior. Team earned a second place finish in state as a freshman and placed third as a sophomore and senior.
  • Young played five years of club for Missouri Thunder and two years for St. Louis High Performance. He won two bronze medals at the Junior Olympics and took third in the Open Division.
 
EDUCATION
  • Holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Missouri Baptist
