RESULTS
ST. LOUIS, MO. - The No. 18 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis men's golf team opened the 2013-14 season by claiming the team trophy at the Arch Cup, hosted by the Tritons, on Tuesday at Norwood Hills Country Club.
UMSL defeated Lindenwood, 5-2, in the championship of match play after defeating McKendree, 5.5 to 1.5 in the semifinals. The Lions advanced to the finals with 6-4 win over Maryville. In the third place contest, Maryville topped McKendree, 8-3.
Lindenwood finished first among the four teams in stroke play, carding a 592 (302-290), while UMSL finished just two strokes back with a 594 (299-295).
Senior Joe Atkisson paced the Tritons with a 145 (72-73) to place second individually, while sophomore Colby Yates finished with a 146 (74-72) to tie for third place. Sophomore Anthony Cope carded a 151 (75-76) and tied for 12th place, while freshman Julien de Poyen placed 15th with a 152 (78-74). Senior Warren Crow rounded out the scoring with a 158 (78-80), tying for 24th place.
Freshman Matt Barry (76-74 – 150) and senior Justin Hyun (80-77 – 157) competed as individuals, tying for 10th and 22nd, respectively.
Lindenwood's Jake Smock claimed medalist honors with a three-under par 139 (71-68).
UMSL returns to the links Sept. 16-17 at the Brickyard Crossing, hosted by Indianapolis.
