ST. LOUIS, MO. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team picked up a 2-1 win over visiting Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action behind goals from juniors
Michael Schlemper and
Jon Huelsman.
The Tritons improve to 9-2-1 overall, including 7-2 in the league, staying steady in second place in the conference standings, while Wisconsin-Parkside slips to 7-6 and 4-6 in the GLVC. The win also snapped a three-game losing streak to the Rangers for UMSL.
The Rangers struck first with a header in the 31
st minute but Schlemper connected for the equalizer with just one second on the clock before intermission. Schlemper headed in the ball for his second goal of the season off junior
DJ Bednar's corner kick.
Huelsman then delivered the game winner with 4:32 remaining in the game, knocking the ball into an empty net from the right side with the assist to junior
Tyler Collico.
UMSL outshot the Rangers, 12-2, in the opening 45 minutes and owned a 21-8 advantage in the game. Freshman
Nathan Dreyer had three of those shots for the Tritons in the first frame, with two being saved, one by the Rangers goalie and one by a Rangers defensive player. His third attempt hit the right post.
Collico tallied a team-high five shots, while Huelsman registered four shots.
Senior
Nick Lenkman played all 90 minutes in goal, tallying two saves.
UMSL begins a three-game roadswing at Indianapolis on Friday in a 7:30 p.m . (EST) contest.
