INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Junior midfielder
Jon Huelsman of the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced today by the league office. Quincy senior goalkeeper Drew Duncan was tabbed as the GLVC Defensive Player of the Week.
Huelsman helped the Tritons finish the week tied for second overall in conference action with an 8-2 mark following home wins against Lewis and UW-Parkside. In Friday's 1-0 shutout over the Flyers, Huelsman converted a penalty kick for the game-winner, while landing all four of his shots on goal. In Sunday's 2-1 victory over the Rangers, the Waterloo, Illinois native found the back of the net with 4:32 to play for his second game-winner of the week. Over the entire weekend, Huelsman posted eight shots attempts, landing five on goal.
This is the second weekly honor in Huelsman's career, the first of which came almost one year ago to the date on Oct. 14, 2013 – the last time a Triton was recognized by the league.
UMSL (9-2-1, 8-2 GLVC) returns to action on Friday at Indianapolis in the start of a three-game road swing that will close out the road portion of its schedule.
