Defense Key in Men’s Soccer’s Double OT Tie Against No. 6 Quincy

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Senior Nick Lenkman recorded a career-best 10 saves to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team to a 0-0 tie against No. 6 ranked and Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season champion Quincy on Sunday afternoon in league play.

The Hawks controlled the contest offensively, out-shooting the Tritons, 23-6, and held a 10-2 edge in shots on goal. Defensively, the Tritons also broke up several other developing plays by Quincy.

"We knew coming in that Quincy was talented offensively and had several scoring weapons so our defense was really tested and stepped up to the challenge," said UMSL head coach Dan King. "Nick also made some huge saves in the first half and played strong all day."

UMSL moves to 11-3-2 overall with the tie, including 10-3-1 in the GLVC and with losses by Rockhurst and Indianapolis today, also secured a home game for next Sunday's GLVC Tournament First Round. However, before that game, the Tritons will close out the regular season on Wednesday, hosting crosstown foe Maryville at 4 p.m.

Quincy moves to 15-0-2 and 12-0-2 in the league, while being shut out for the first time this season. The Hawks came into the game averaging 3.25 goals per game on 19.6 shots per game.

This was the fourth time in the last five regular season meetings that the two teams have gone to overtime.
