ST. LOUIS, MO. – Sophomore
Jory Siebenmorgen recorded a career-high 19 kills and matched a career-best 20 digs, but it wasn't enough to prevent visiting Southern Indiana from rallying to take a 3-1 victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. The Tritons won the opening set, 25-19, but the Screaming Eagles won the final three, 25-18, 25-23, 25-20 to garner the win.
UMSL slips to 14-9 overall with the loss, including 9-6 in the GLVC, while Southern Indiana snapped a three-match losing streak with the win to improve to 17-9 and 7-8 in the league. The Screaming Eagles have won eight of the last 10 meetings against the Tritons.
Junior
Lindsay Meyer recorded her 13
th double-double with 49 assists and 12 digs, while senior
Emily Bragaw finished with a match-best 23 digs.
Siebenmorgen recorded six kills in the first set, while Meyer dished out 13 assists as the Tritons hit .194. UMSL scored six straight to turn a 15-14 lead into a 21-14 advantage with Siebenmorgen tallying two kills during that stretch.
The Screaming Eagles took the second set behind .350 hitting and used an 8-2 run, including a stretch of five straight, midway through the frame, to take a 17-10 lead en route to the win.
Southern Indiana then raced out to a 9-1 lead in the third set and later built a 10-point lead, but the Tritons fought back, pulling within 24-23. However, the slow start hampered UMSL, which it just .068 in that set.
In the fourth set, freshman
Gina Pezze's kill ignited a 5-1 run, turning a 7-6 deficit into an 11-8 lead. But with the Tritons leading 14-11, Southern Indiana used a 7-1 run to take an 18-15 lead it would not relinquish with Fawn Ryan recording three straight kills. Ryan led the Screaming Eagles with 16 kills.
The Tritons hit .137 in the match, recording 54 kills, while Southern Indiana hit .185 and tallied 55 kills. The Screaming Eagles, which rank second in the league in blocks, registered 10 to UMSL's five. Siebenmorgen and fellow freshman
