Women's Basketball Prevails Over Trevecca Nazarene to Win Fourth Straight

LEBANON, ILL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team overcame a season-low 32.8 shooting percentage to pick up its fourth straight win on Saturday, a 62-47 victory over Trevecca Nazarene.
 
The Tritons, playing in their final home non-conference game, which was moved to McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill., improve to 4-1 overall, while Trevecca Nazarene slips to 1-4. The Trojans' last three losses have come at the hands of a GLVC team.
 
UMSL had four players in double figure scoring and snagged a season-best 55 rebounds in owning a 55-33 rebounding advantage.
 
Senior Tierra Snow recorded a season-best 15 points, while senior Alexis Lawrence tallied 13 points, including 10 in the second half. Sophomore Sydney Bloch followed with a career-best 11 points, while freshman Jordan Fletcher chipped in 10.
 
Guards Amber Daly and Kelly McGovern pulled down 12 and 11 rebounds, respectively. UMSL recorded 19 boards on the offensive end, outscoring the Trojans, 17-7, in second chance points. Trevecca Nazarene shot 29.8 percent and pulled down 33 rebounds.
 
The Tritons jumped out to an early 12-4 lead and later extended it to 19-9 on Lawrence's three-point bucket at the 10:58 mark. The Trojans then whittled the lead down to three points by scoring seven unanswered, but UMSL responded with a 7-2 run, taking a 26-18 advantage on Snow's traditional three-point play before taking a 26-21 lead at the break.
 
A 10-0 run by the Tritons midway through the second half allowed UMSL to pull away and turned a 41-35 advantage into a 51-35 lead with 7:12 to play.
 
Bloch dished out five assists and added six rebounds and two steals, while junior Kelly Kunkel collected four steals and tallied three assists, while also contributing six points and eight rebounds.
 
UMSL returns to the court next Saturday, traveling to NCAA Division I Saint Louis in an exhibition contest at 2 p.m.
