Box ScoreST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team lost a 68-49 decision on Saturday at NCAA Division I Saint Louis. While the contest was a regular season game for the host Billikens, it was an exhibition game for the Tritons.
Saint Louis (4-3) shot an even 50 percent from the field and used a quick start to help garner the victory.
The Billikens connected on their first six field goals to take a 15-5 lead four and a half minutes into the game before extending it to a 25-11 lead on its fourth consecutive three-point bucket. SLU shot 53.6 percent in the opening half to take a 39-18 lead into the half, while UMSL shot 34.8 percent, missing its final six field goal attempts of the half and going just 2-of-11 in the final 10 minutes. Logan Sims gave the Tritons their final bucket of the half at the 5:56 mark to make it 30-17.
UMSL limited the Billikens to just seven points in the first 10 minutes of the second half and later trimmed the deficit to 14 points by scoring five straight, including a conventional three-point play from senior
Kelly McGovern and a bucket from senior
Tierra Snow, to pull within 54-40 with 5:43 to play. However, Saint Louis followed with a 10-2 run and UMSL would get no closer.
UMSL connected at 35.3 percent clip from the field, including just 20 percent (2-of-10) from three-point range.
Senior
Alexis Lawrence led the offense with 12 points, while junior
Kelly Kunkel followed with nine points and five rebounds.
Saint Louis owned a 39-28 rebounding advantage with senior
Amber Daly grabbing seven rebounds to go with four assists and two steals. McGovern dished out four assists and collected four steals.
UMSL returns to regular season action next Saturday when it travels to Lindenwood in a 1 p.m. contest.
