FINDLAY, OHIO – Senior
Alexis Lawrence scored 18 of her game-high 20 points in the second half, but it wasn't enough to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team to victory as the Tritons suffered a 72-66 loss at Findlay on Saturday afternoon.
UMSL, which slips to 4-3 overall, owned a 25-22 halftime lead, holding the Oilers to just four field goal attempts and a mere 23.5 shooting percentage in the first 20 minutes. The Tritons extended their lead to 38-31 with just over 13 minutes to play in the second half before the hosts used a 14-2 run to take a 45-40 lead it would not relinquish with 8:07 remaining. The Oilers' Nikki Gunning scored 13 straight points for her team during that stretch before finishing with 19.
A pair of free throws from Lawrence later pulled UMSL within 53-51 with just under five minutes to play, but Findlay (5-3) responded with a 7-0 run and the Tritons would get no closer.
The Tritons shot 45.1 percent and owned a 35-26 rebounding advantage, while Findlay finished the game shooting 38.9 percent.
