ST. LOUIS, MO. – Senior
Paul Richmond and junior
Shane Brinker each had four hits and three RBIs to lead the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team to a pair of wins over Rockhurst on Sunday as the two teams closed out a four-game Great Lakes Valley Conference series. The Tritons won the opener, 10-2, before taking game two, 5-3. With the victories, UMSL claims the series, taking three of four games.
The Tritons, which improve to 9-9 overall, including 7-5 in the GLVC, tallied 22 hits in today's two victories. Rockhurst dips to 7-14 overall with the losses, including 6-6 in the league.
UMSL will host Maryville on Tuesday in a GLVC twinbill. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
UMSL 10, Rockhurst 2 (7 innings)
UMSL used a season-high 12 hits to garner the win, including three from Richmond, who also drove in two runs.
Junior
Zach Sedlackek picked up his first win of the season on the mound, striking out seven, while allowing both runs on four hits.
The Hawks took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but four runs by the Tritons in the bottom of the frame gave UMSL a lead it would not relinquish. The Tritons also plated four runs in the fifth inning.
Junior
Daniel Seddon added a pair of hits, both doubles, and added two RBIs. Senior
Michael Budka also recorded two RBIs, collecting both with a two-run single in the first inning.
UMSL 5, Rockhurst 3 (9 innings)
Brinker went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs, while senior
Cody Garlington added two hits, an RBI and a run scored as UMSL recorded 10 hits in the win.
Rockhurst struck in the second inning and held that lead until the fourth inning when Garlington's RBI double scored Richmond to make it 1-1. Brinker gave UMSL the lead in the sixth with an RBI single up the middle, but two Hawks runs in the seventh put Rockhurst back on top, 3-2.
UMSL answered back with three runs in the bottom of that frame. Richmond delivered his first homerun of the season in the seventh to tie it, while freshman
Chris Mathes drove in the game-winner before Brinker's drove in an insurance run.
Junior
Matt Meyer picked up the win in one inning of relief, while senior
Kyle Dermody recorded his first save of the season in one and two-thirds of an inning. Meyer and Dermody combined to hold Rockhurst without a hit, with Dermody striking out three.
