Wayne State Rallies For 5-2 Victory Over Tritons in Baseball

AUBURNDALE, FLA. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team dropped a 5-2 decision to Wayne State (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon at the Russmatt Central Florida Invitational.

The Warriors scored three unanswered runs in the final two innings, including two in the eighth to garner the win.

The Tritons took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when freshman Jake Beckwith led off with a single and later scored on an RBI groundout by freshman Jose Ortiz.

Wayne State tied it in the fifth and took a 2-1 lead in the seventh before UMSL countered in the bottom of the seventh as senior Tyler Bunge led off with a single and later scored.

Senior Zach Standefer took the loss, working seven and two-thirds of an inning. He allowed four runs, including three earned, and struck out seven, while scattering 12 hits.

Offensively, UMSL had eight hits, including two each from Bunge and seniors Paul Richmond and Justin Lois.

The Tritons (0-3) will close out their spring trip to Florida tomorrow with a doubleheader against Tiffin.
