ST. LOUIS, MO. – Junior
Alan Frank tossed a complete game one-hitter to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team to a 7-1 victory over Maryville in the nightcap of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The visiting Saints took the opener, 6-4.
UMSL moves to 10-10 overall with the split, including 8-6 in the GLVC, while Maryville is now 12-12 and also 8-6 in the league.
The Tritons return to the field this weekend, traveling to William Jewell in a four-game GLVC series on Saturday and Sunday.
Maryville 6, UMSL 4 (9 innings)
A four-run fifth inning helped the Saints erase a 3-1 deficit en route to the win.
Senior
Cody Garlington used a two-out RBI single in the first inning to tie the game at 1-1 after Maryville scored an unearned run in the top of the frame.
The Tritons then took a 3-1 lead in the third with a pair of runs, including an RBI single from senior
Michael Budka with the bases loaded.
UMSL tried to rally for the win in the ninth, but came up short. Senior
Justin Lois led off with a single and later scored on a fielder's choice RBI from senior
Paul Richmond. However that would be all the Tritons would get as UMSL left two on base to end the game.
Senior
Chris True took the loss, allowing five runs on five hits.
Maryville recorded 10 hits in the win, while UMSL recorded seven, including two each from Garlington and junior
Daniel Seddon.
UMSL 7, Maryville 1 (7 innings)
The Tritons scored their first five runs despite tallying just two hits. UMSL took advantage of three walks in the first inning to plate three runs and added two in the second inning courtesy of two Saints errors. The Maryville pitching staff issued seven walks through three innings of play.
Richmond extended the lead to 6-1 in the sixth inning with a two-out RBI double to the gap in left center and then scored on Budka's RBI triple to right center for the final score.
Budka finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Richmond also recorded two hits as UMSL tallied six in the game. Junior
Daniel Seddon drew three walks and scored two runs.
Frank improved to 2-0 on the mound, striking out three in the process.
