Box Score 2 PITTSBURG, KAN. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team lost a pair of games at Pittsburg State on Wednesday in nonconference action.
The Gorillas scored eight unanswered en route to an 11-4 game one victory and then rallied for a 7-6 eight-inning win in the nightcap.
The Tritons slip to 13-13 with the losses, while Pitt State improves to 15-22.
UMSL returns to action this weekend, hosting Quincy in a four-game GLVC series. Doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday both begin at 12 p.m.
Game 1: Pittsburg State 11, UMSL 4After opening with a 3-0 lead, UMSL saw Pitt State score eight unanswered en route to the win.
Junior
Shane Brinker's two-run homerun put the Tritons on the board in the second inning before an RBI single from junior
Dylan Fieth made it 3-0 in the third.
The Gorillas then scored four runs on four hits, including back-to-back homeruns, in the fourth inning to go on top, 4-3, and plated another four in the fifth.
UMSL got one back in the sixth as senior
Justin Lois's ground out allowed senior
Cody Garlington to score, but Pitt State extended the lead to 11-4 with a three-run bottom of the sixth.
Senior
Nick Dorsey took the loss, allowing five runs on five hits. Pitt State tallied 12 hits, while UMSL recorded eight, including two each from Brinker and senior
Tyler Bunge.
Game 2: Pittsburg State 7, UMSL 6 (8 inn.)The Gorillas won with a walk-off double in the bottom of the eighth after having scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to extend the game.
The loss came after UMSL scored five unanswered to erase a 2-1 deficit.
An RBI single in the first gave the Tritons an early lead before Pitt State followed with two in bottom of the frame.
The Tritons then plated four in the third to take a 5-2 lead. Senior
Philip Landwehr led off with a solo homerun, while senior
Michael Budka added a three-run shot.
After the Gorillas got two back in the bottom of the third, junior
Daniel Seddon drove in an insurance run.
Pitt State then used two hits to score two game-tying runs in the seventh, while also taking advantage of a wild pitch and three walks, including one intentional.
Seven different players had one hit each for UMSL.
Senior
Kyle Dermody took the loss, scattering four hits and allowing the final three runs scored by Pitt State. Junjior
Chris True struck out five, while earning the start and going five and one-thirds of an inning.
