The Tritons enter the game in a two-way tie for first place in the GLVC standings, while the Hawks are a game behind. UMSL will also host William Jewell Sunday. The Tritons are off to their best start since 1991 and are 4-0 in the GLVC for the first time in program history.
SIZING UP THE TRITIONS UMSL improved to 5-0-1, including 4-0 in the GLVC, last weekend with wins at Southern Indiana (1-0) and Illinois Springfield (2-1). The Tritons, which are 2-0 at home, have only allowed four goals all season. Senior goalkeeper
Nick Lenkman ranks sixth in the conference in goals against average (0.70). Offensively, sophomores
Leo Sanchez and
DJ Bednar each have recorded three goals, while junior
Jon Huelsman has three assists. UMSL is outshooting their opponents 75-62.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTSRockhurst slipped to 3-2 overall, including 3-1 in the GLVC, with its first conference loss last Sunday in a 2-1 overtime setback to Lewis on an own goal. Sophomore Michael Panarisi (three goals) and freshman Adam Michel (four assists) lead the team with six points each. Defensively, Rockhurst has only allowed three goals this season.
William Jewell enters a Friday contest at Maryville with a 1-3-2 over record, including 1-1-3 in the GLVC. Freshman Aaron Froehlich has scored four of the five goals for the Cardinals this season.
LAST YEAR AGASINT THESE OPPNENTS UMSL defeated then No. 8 ranked Rockhurst 2-1, in Kansas City during a regular season game. Then sophomore
Jon Huelsman scored both goals for the Tritons in the upset victory. The Hawks then defeated the Tritons 3-0 in the first round of the GLVC tournament.
UMSL posted a 2-1 win at William Jewell scoring the game-winning goal in the 72
nd minute.
