Women's Soccer Comes Up Short in 1-0 Loss to William Jewell



ST. LOUIS, MO. – Despite outshooting William Jewell, 21-6, the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team came up short in a 1-0 loss to the visiting Cardinals on Sunday in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
 
The Tritons had six shots on goal and had several opportunities to finish, including two attempts in the closing seconds. Junior Mary Hoffmann's shot from the left side hit the crossbar with 10 seconds to play, while one last attempt went wide.
 
UMSL falls to 5-3 overall, including 3-3 in the GLVC, while William Jewell improves to 3-1-3, 3-1-2 in the league.
 
The Cardinals scored the game-winner with just five minutes to play and finished with just two shots on goal.
 
UMSL held an 8-3 edge in shots in the first half and placed three attempts on goal. Junior Kali Thomas nearly gave the Tritons a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute, but her shot squarely hit the left post.
 
With 26 minutes to play in the second half, junior Laura Hurlbut took a shot in front of the goal, but the ball was saved by a diving Alex Dressman. Then at the 77 minute mark, junior Hunter Wagoner one-timed it off of a cross from junior Cassie McFadden, but Dressman was there for another save. She finished with six saves.
 
Hurlbut took five shots for UMSL, placing three on target, while junior Sidney Allen also recorded five shots. Hoffman took four.
 
Junior Megan Ohm played all 90 minutes in goal, registering one save.
 
The Tritons will be back in action on Friday, traveling to Missouri S&T before a trek to Drury next Sunday.
