ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team suffered a 3-1 setback at Maryville on Tuesday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action as the Saints won by set scores of 20-25, 25-13, 25-18, 26-24.
UMSL hit .164 in the loss and slips to 7-5 overall, including 4-3 in the GLVC, while Maryville, which defeated the Tritons for the first time in program history in 13 tries, improves to 7-6 and 3-4 in the league.
Junior
Lindsay Meyer paced UMSL with 40 assists, 13 digs and four kills, while junior
Carly Ochs registered 12 kills. Ochs hit .345, while senior
Allie Ewing hit .500, recording four kills in six attempts, playing in two of the four sets. The rest of the Triton attackers hit just .091.
UMSL recorded five blocks in the first set victory, while limiting Maryville to .045 hitting. However, UMSL committed 10 attack errors in the second set, while recording just one block as the Saints hit .429.
The Tritons trailed 19-13 in the fourth set before scoring eight unanswered, including three kills from senior
Haley Brightwell, to take a 21-19 lead before Maryville rallied back for the win. Five of the Saints' final seven points came on a kill as Maryville finished with 19 in the frame.
The Saints hit .233 in the win and outblocked UMSL, 10-8. Junior
Jessica Ploss had five blocks, four of which came in the first set. Senior
Emily Bragaw tallied 17 digs.
The Tritons return home Friday to host Missouri S&T at 7 p.m. and will close out the week against Drury on Saturday.
