Amber Daly scored a career-high 24 points, while redshirt freshman
Jordan Fletcher snagged her first career double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team to a 66-57 win over McKendree on Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
The Tritons improve to 6-4 overall, including 2-0 in the GLVC.
UMSL, which led by 23 points midway through the second half was forced to fend off a late McKendree (1-9, 0-2 GLVC)rally to garner the win. After Daly put the Tritons on top 53-30 at the 11:22 mark, the Bearcats went on a 19-6 run, capped with 11 unanswered points, to trim the deficit to 59-49 with 5:35 to play on a traditional three-point play. UMSL suffered a field goal drought of seven minutes 15 seconds as McKendree made its run. The Bearcats pulled within nine twice, including the final score, but would get no closer.
The Tritons shot 44.6 percent after a 51.7 percent first half outing and owned a 32-28 rebounding advantage.
UMSL raced out to a 14-0 lead to open the game and held the Bearcats scoreless until the 14:10 mark. The Tritons took their largest lead of the half with 3:29 to play on Daly's jumper to make it 32-12 before McKendree finished the half on a 10-3 run to close the gap to 35-23 at the break.
Senior
Alexis Lawrence also finished in double figures with 12 points, connecting on four three-pointers, and recorded five assists. Daly added three assists and collected three steals, while senior
Kelly McGovern finished with six assists and five rebounds. Fletcher blocked two shots.
The Tritons return to action Thursday at No. 2 ranked Lewis.
